I Will Run on Labour Party Platform in 2027 – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential poll under the party’s banner. In a video shared on the party’s WhatsApp platform, Obi addressed a group of young supporters, assuring them of his continued loyalty to the LP.
“I will still continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party,” he said in response to a question about his 2027 political plans.
Obi also spoke on the ongoing internal crises within both the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the government for instigating disruptions in opposition parties. “What is happening in the Labour Party and the PDP is caused by the government. Quote me anywhere,” he stated.
He recalled a time during the presidency of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua when he sought intervention to resolve similar issues. According to Obi, Yar’Adua called the then INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, to ensure peace in party affairs—an example of leadership he contrasted with the current administration’s alleged interference.
Obi emphasized the importance of voter responsibility, urging Nigerians to safeguard their votes. “Even if agents are paid by political parties, the real decision lies with the people,” he said, adding that a functioning democracy requires strong and independent opposition.
He encouraged Nigerian youths not to lose faith in the democratic process, acknowledging that resistance from vested interests is part of the struggle for progress. Obi also advocated for a retirement age in politics, revealing that he would be 65 by the 2027 election and does not intend to remain in the race into his 70s.
Despite challenges, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to political reform and a better Nigeria, pledging to continue pushing for change through the Labour Party platform.
