Peter Obi’s Alleged Preferred Choice, John Nwosu, Emerges ADC Guber Candidate in Anambra
Former Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant for the upcoming Anambra State election, John Nwosu, has been officially unveiled as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the November 8 poll. Nwosu, who is widely speculated to be the preferred choice of former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, was announced as the replacement for the party’s initial flagbearer, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, following a substitution primary held in Awka.
The primary was overseen by the party’s national organising secretary, Ibrahim Suleiman, and returning officer, Chief Anayo Arinze, with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present to monitor the process. Nwosu’s emergence marks a significant shift in the race, given his prior alignment with the LP and growing recognition among reform-minded political stakeholders in the state.
Speaking to delegates and party supporters, Nwosu expressed a strong commitment to restoring effective governance in Anambra. He outlined a development agenda anchored on seven key pillars: security, health, education, economy, agriculture, and information and communication technology (ICT). He positioned himself as a candidate determined to drive transformative change in a state he said has been underserved by the current administration.
Criticising the security approach of the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Nwosu described recent government-initiated security efforts as reactive and politically motivated. He claimed the new measures lacked depth and were introduced hastily in anticipation of the election. According to him, a sustainable and effective security framework must be technology-driven, emphasizing the deployment of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems across the state to ensure real-time monitoring and enhance public safety.
