“I Only Denied Davido Access to My Body, Not Our Daughter” – Sophia Momodu
Sophia Momodu, the first baby mama of Afrobeats star Davido, has refuted claims that she denied the singer access to their daughter, Imade.
In a recent statement issued through her legal representatives, Momodu clarified that it was Davido who, by his “own choice,” had not seen their daughter since July 2022. This response comes after Davido filed a lawsuit seeking custody of Imade.
Momodu’s statement emphasized that she has “solely shouldered” the responsibility for their daughter over the past two years. Despite Davido’s absence, he frequently posts pictures of Imade on social media, attempting to “falsely portray himself as a supportive and active father.”
“David has not seen their daughter since 2022 by his own choice,” the statement read. “Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions such as her birthday or Christmas for the past two years, leaving his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her.”
Furthermore, the statement highlighted Davido’s failure to meet his financial responsibilities since July 2022, including unpaid school fees. Despite numerous attempts by the school to contact him regarding the fees for the 2021/2022 term and January 2023, there was no response until legal counsel intervened in February 2023. Davido’s father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke, eventually settled the outstanding fees.
“Sophia strongly maintains that the most important support David can provide to their daughter is presence and emotional support,” the statement added.
The statement concluded by addressing Davido’s public relationship, stating, “Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship, and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse.”
