Davido Sues Sophia Momodu for Custody of Daughter Imade
Internationally acclaimed singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has initiated legal action against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, seeking custody of their daughter.
The case, filed by Davido’s legal team, including Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, was submitted to the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024. Davido’s primary request is for joint custody of Imade Adeleke. Alternatively, he seeks unrestricted access to his daughter.
The court documents, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, list Davido as the applicant and Sophia Momodu as the respondent. In his 44-paragraph affidavit, Davido detailed his financial contributions to Imade’s education and living expenses, including school fees and apartment rent. Despite offering Momodu a N200 million apartment in a secure Lagos community, she allegedly declined, preferring an annual N5 million rental arrangement.
Davido also mentioned purchasing two vehicles for Momodu and Imade’s use, a Range Rover SUV and a Highlander SUV, and covering repair costs. He recounted a recent incident where Imade missed two weeks of school, which Momodu attributed to vehicle issues without notifying him.
Further detailing his financial support, Davido stated he covered nanny fees, healthcare, insurance, and international travel expenses for Imade. Despite these efforts, he claimed Momodu continued to make excessive demands and exhibited unwarranted hostility.
The couple’s strained relationship has been public in the past. In 2021, Momodu expressed her distress over Imade bearing Davido’s surname instead of hers, revealing on Instagram that her family convinced her it was for Imade’s benefit.
