“I Have Not Met a Nigerian Pastor That Knows Scripture” – Daddy Freeze
Controversial media personality Daddy Freeze has sparked debate with his recent comments about Nigerian pastors, claiming they lack a true understanding of scripture. Speaking on the *Leadership* podcast hosted by Stephen Akintayo, Daddy Freeze argued that while many pastors are able to quote the Bible, they often miss the deeper context and meaning behind the texts.
He stressed the importance of scholarly engagement with religious texts, calling for a more rigorous and academic approach to scriptural interpretation. According to him, pastors should not rely solely on popular Bible translations like the King James Version but should study scripture in its original languages and align their understanding with established scholarly consensus.
“I believe pastors should apply scholarliness to doctrine. I took my time to study it, and when I say study scripture, I mean *study*,” he said. “I have not met a Nigerian pastor that knows scriptures. They might know the Bible but they don’t know scripture.”
He explained that understanding scripture goes beyond surface-level reading, citing the work of scholars who analyse ancient papyrus manuscripts and original texts to reach agreed-upon interpretations. “You can’t tell me that you know the Bible because you have studied the King James from the beginning to the end. Until you study in the original languages, you don’t know scripture,” he added.
