How Can a Governorship Candidate Get Only One Vote in His Own Ward – PDP Anambra Suspends Jude Ezenwafor
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra has suspended its governorship candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, for one month following what the party described as sabotage and uncooperative conduct during the recent election. The suspension takes immediate effect.
The announcement was made by the State Executive Committee (SEC) at a meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s Awka office. Anambra PDP chairman Chidi Chidebe told journalists that the decision followed concerns over Ezenwafor’s failure to campaign across the state and his alleged collusion with candidates from other political parties to undermine the PDP’s prospects.
Chidebe accused Ezenwafor of fabricating claims of assassination attempts and extortion of party members, including his running mate, and of establishing a parallel group of impostors, mostly non-members of the PDP, to interfere with legitimate party activities. “His behaviour was uncooperative and destructive to the collective interest of the party throughout the campaign period,” Chidebe said.
The SEC has referred Ezenwafor to the State Disciplinary Committee for further investigation, and the party’s National Working Committee has been advised to deny him and his collaborators any further recognition.
Chidebe explained that when it became clear that Ezenwafor lacked the interest and capacity to campaign, the party instructed Council Executive Committee members to actively support PDP candidates in their areas. This collective effort secured the party 1,401 votes in the election, placing it sixth among 16 participating parties.
In a striking indication of his poor performance, Ezenwafor received only one vote in his own ward, Nnobi Ward 3 in Idemili South Local Government Area, a result the PDP described as the worst in any ward across the state.
The party emphasized its commitment to discipline, unity, and internal democracy. Efforts to contact Ezenwafor were unsuccessful, as his phone line was reportedly switched off.
