Hisbah Summons Elderly Bauchi Man Over Facebook Photos with Multiple Women
The Bauchi State Hisbah Commission has summoned a 60-year-old resident, Bala Muhammad, for questioning following social media posts in which he shared photographs of himself with various women, allegedly his former romantic partners. The images, shared on Facebook, quickly gained attention and stirred up controversy, leading to complaints from the families of some of the women involved.
In the series of nearly 30 photos, Muhammad appears alongside women—many dressed in attire considered revealing by conservative standards. The posts have sparked a significant reaction online, with some social media users warning married men in the region to “guard their wives” from Muhammad, whom they labeled a “chronic womanizer.”
Confirming the investigation, Bauchi Hisbah Public Relations Officer Muhammad Muhammad Bununu spoke with reporters, noting that Hisbah acted on multiple complaints from the families of the women featured in the posts.
“Initially, the Police detained him based on the complaints, but on Thursday, we requested his release to allow us to conduct our investigation. He has since been returned to Police custody,” Bununu explained.
During his questioning with Hisbah, Muhammad reportedly expressed regret, claiming that the photos were taken about 20 years ago, a period when most of the women were unmarried. He has since sought forgiveness from the women and their families, saying he had no intention to cause harm or embarrassment.
Muhammad, a native of Dass Local Government Area now residing in Bauchi city, is unmarried and has no children. According to him, he was first alerted to the controversy by his brother before he was brought to Hisbah’s attention and subsequently detained by authorities.
