Why Bobrisky Was Re-arrested and Flown to Abuja – EFCC Source
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly re-arrested Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, following allegations he ignored multiple summons to address corruption claims he made against the agency. The popular social media personality was detained by immigration officers at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday night while attempting to board a flight to London via Amsterdam.
According to an EFCC official, Bobrisky’s re-arrest stems from allegations he made against the commission, claiming he paid N15 million to EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against him. Bobrisky’s allegations have been widely publicized but remain unsubstantiated. Sources say he failed to appear before the EFCC or respond to summons from the National Assembly regarding his claims.
“We detained him in Lagos, and he will be flown to Abuja,” the EFCC official disclosed. “These are serious accusations. He accused us of bribery and corruption, but he has not provided any evidence to back his claims. His refusal to appear left us with no option but to ensure he provides a statement.”
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, confirmed the re-arrest but did not offer additional details. On social media, Bobrisky had previously posted about his interaction with EFCC officials, alleging an altercation in which he sustained minor injuries while being detained by immigration officers.
The EFCC has warned that if Bobrisky’s claims are proven false, he may face additional charges for providing misleading information.
