Kano Hisbah Bans Tricycle Operators from Wearing Shorts, Playing Music, Carrying Mixed Genders During Ramadan
The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced new restrictions for commercial tricycle operators, locally known as Yanzu Adaidaita Sahu, for the duration of Ramadan.
Deputy Commander-General Mujahid Aminuddeen said on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, that the measures aim to curb behaviors deemed immoral. “Operators caught violating these rules will be arrested and prosecuted,” he stated.
Under the directives of Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board will conduct special operations throughout the month in areas identified as hotspots for immoral activities. The restrictions include:
* Wearing three-quarter trousers
* Playing music that disturbs passengers or the public
* Mixing passengers of opposite genders in tricycles
* Displaying explicit posters or stickers on vehicles
* Engaging in indecent dressing, particularly by young women
Aminuddeen added that Hisbah operatives will also coordinate with other security agencies at mosques during Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers to enhance safety and maintain order.
The board’s latest move follows its recent “Operation Kau da Badala,” aimed at tackling social vices such as prostitution, drug abuse, and other immoral activities among youth. Past investigations cited offenses by tricycle operators including provocative hairstyles, inappropriate clothing, illegal posters on vehicles, transporting unrelated men and women together, and involvement in drug distribution.
Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide, is a period of fasting, prayer, charity, and spiritual reflection. The Hisbah Board emphasizes that these measures are intended to ensure that the sacred month is respected throughout Kano State.
