Hezbollah Strikes Israel as IDF Launches Ground Raids in Southern Lebanon
Explosions rocked Tel Aviv and northern Israel early Tuesday as Hezbollah launched a barrage of missiles in response to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) raids in southern Lebanon. Air raid sirens blared across northern and central regions of Israel, and defensive measures were deployed, but some missiles successfully penetrated, according to Mail Online.
The Lebanese militant group’s attacks come after the IDF launched overnight raids in response to the growing threat from Hezbollah. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that the IDF’s operations aimed to prevent another large-scale attack similar to last year’s Hamas-led October 7 assault.
“Hezbollah has transformed villages along our northern border into military bases aimed at Israel,” Hagari remarked. “These targeted raids are necessary to protect our citizens and communities.”
Despite the limited nature of the raids, calls for a broader military response have emerged from Israeli government officials. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir urged for a more extensive operation to “crush” Hezbollah, which has become a significant threat to Israeli security.
The IDF revealed that the elite 98th Division, previously stationed in Gaza, was redeployed to the northern front for these operations. Supported by air and artillery, the division conducted precise ground assaults on Hezbollah positions in Lebanese border villages.
Tensions have escalated following the confirmed death of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, three days ago in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut. His death marks a turning point in the conflict, with Israel now contemplating a full-scale invasion of southern Lebanon.
As Israeli airstrikes continue to target Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, the IDF has warned residents in over 20 areas of southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately, signaling the possibility of further ground operations. Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee, speaking via X, warned civilians to distance themselves from Hezbollah members and installations, emphasizing that their proximity puts lives in jeopardy.
The Israeli military’s northern incursion, named ‘Operation Northern Arrows,’ represents a significant escalation. Israeli officials have hinted that the operation will continue alongside their ongoing combat in Gaza and other regions, potentially leading to a broader conflict with Hezbollah.
Israel’s air force has been active across multiple fronts, striking key targets in Lebanon and beyond as it seeks to dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. Meanwhile, the situation remains tense, with residents in northern Israel bracing for further retaliatory strikes as the conflict deepens.
