Israel Strikes Iranian Naval Facility as Explosions Hit Tehran
Israeli forces have carried out strikes on an Iranian naval research facility, as multiple explosions were reported across Tehran late Saturday, marking an escalation in the ongoing regional conflict.
The Israeli military said it targeted the headquarters of Iran’s Marine Industries Organisation, describing it as a key site involved in developing naval weaponry, including both manned and unmanned systems. Officials indicated that operations against Iran’s military infrastructure are intensifying and could continue in the coming days.
Witnesses in Tehran reported loud blasts and visible plumes of smoke overnight. Additional explosions were heard later in the evening, though authorities did not immediately confirm the targets.
The latest strikes follow a declaration by Yemen’s Houthi movement that it had entered the conflict. The group said it launched a ballistic missile toward Israel, which Israeli officials reported was intercepted.
The involvement of the Houthis raises concerns about further instability in key shipping routes, particularly in the Red Sea. Disruptions could worsen economic pressures already linked to reduced access through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global energy supplies.
The conflict has expanded significantly since joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, triggering widespread military and economic fallout across the region.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing. Pakistan is set to host talks involving regional powers including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has acknowledged Islamabad’s mediation role, while European officials have suggested that direct talks between Washington and Tehran could take place soon.
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that negotiations may resolve the crisis, despite continued hostilities.
The conflict is also affecting infrastructure and trade across the Middle East. Shipping operations have been disrupted, with some ports suspending activity after drone attacks. Energy facilities, industrial sites, and airports in several countries have reported damage from missile and drone strikes.
In Iran, industrial production has been hit, including the shutdown of a major steel plant following recent attacks. Iranian authorities have warned of retaliation targeting economic infrastructure across the region.
Meanwhile, protests have emerged in Israel, with demonstrators in Tel Aviv and other cities calling for an end to the war, citing concerns over its duration and lack of a clear exit strategy.
As military actions continue on multiple fronts, there is growing uncertainty over how and when the conflict may de-escalate.
