JUST IN: Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz Following Lebanon–Israel Ceasefire

Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping after a ceasefire agreement involving Lebanon and Israel took effect, easing recent disruptions in one of the world’s busiest energy routes.

The Iranian government confirmed that commercial vessels can now pass through the waterway under conditions tied to the temporary truce. The decision follows days of heightened tension in the region and diplomatic activity involving Iran, the United States, and regional actors.

The announcement came after reports of a ceasefire arrangement linked to broader negotiations. Earlier discussions hosted in Islamabad involved Iranian and US representatives, resulting in a two-week ceasefire framework, though follow-up talks last week failed to produce additional progress.

Tensions had escalated after Israel halted strikes on Iranian targets but continued military operations in Lebanon. Tehran described the continued attacks in Lebanon as a breach of the ceasefire terms and warned that it could disrupt ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, stated in a social media post that the maritime corridor is now open for commercial traffic for the duration of the ceasefire. He added that vessels must operate along routes coordinated with Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for global oil shipments, had experienced intermittent disruptions in recent weeks as regional hostilities intensified. Its reopening is expected to ease pressure on shipping flows and energy transport while the ceasefire remains in place.
