On Tuesday morning, unidentified gunmen launched a daring attack on a Daewoo convoy traveling along the East-West Road in Rivers State. The assailants, in a brazen act, killed four Nigerian soldiers and two civilian drivers, leaving a trail of devastation.
The convoy, reportedly carrying Korean expatriates, fell victim to the attackers at approximately 9:30 am, causing chaos and panic along the vital East-West Road. Sources confirm that the assailants targeted a team of expatriates escorted by troops from the 5 Battalion along the Ahoada-Obua route in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
According to a security source, “During the attack, the assailants opened fire on the convoy, killing four soldiers and two civilian drivers, and subsequently abducted two Koreans in the process.”
The situation remains fluid, with details still emerging. The security forces are actively engaged in efforts to gather comprehensive information from the units involved. Updates on the incident will be provided as soon as additional details become available.
Despite efforts to obtain information, Grace Woyengikuro Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, has yet to confirm the incident or provide official details at the time of filing this report. The state is now on high alert as authorities work to address the security concerns raised by this distressing attack on Daewoo workers and the abduction of Korean expatriates.
