In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old man identified as Johnson Joseph has been arrested by Ondo state police detectives for alleged armed robbery and rape. The suspect was apprehended in Bolorunduro, Ondo East council area, following a distressing incident involving a stranded woman.
Reports reveal that Johnson Joseph posed as a benevolent Samaritan, offering assistance to the stranded lady in her time of need. However, this purported act of kindness took a sinister turn when he brandished a firearm and committed a heinous crime.
According to a police source, the suspect lured the victim into a secluded area under the guise of helping her but subsequently robbed her of N102,000 in cash, her mobile phone, and subjected her to a traumatic rape ordeal at gunpoint.
The swift response of police operatives on routine patrol in the area led to the arrest of Johnson Joseph. The spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the apprehension and disclosed the recovery of crucial evidence.
Items recovered from the suspect included a black unregistered TVS ladies motorcycle, a loaded cut-to-size gun with bullets, six mobile phones, and a POS machine. These findings further substantiated the seriousness of the crimes committed.
Odunlami explained that the suspect’s arrest came as a result of a formal complaint of rape and armed robbery, lodged at the police station by one of his victims. During subsequent interrogation, Johnson Joseph admitted to multiple similar incidents in the past.
Remarkably, four of his victims were able to be contacted through their recovered phones, and they positively identified him as the perpetrator who had targeted them, robbing them of their possessions.
The police spokesperson concluded by stating that the suspect will be prosecuted in court once the investigation is complete. This shocking case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution, even in seemingly benevolent encounters.
