Alleged Mentally Unstable Man Kills Three Children, Including His Son, with Machete
A tragic incident in Okitipupa has left residents in shock after three children were allegedly killed in a violent attack inside a family home on Tuesday, April 6, 2026.
Police sources and community accounts say a male relative, believed to be struggling with mental health challenges, attacked the children with a machete in what appeared to be a domestic incident that escalated into fatalities.
The victims include a female student enrolled in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme, her young cousin, and the biological son of the suspect.
All three were said to be members of the same extended family and were attacked inside the family compound before other relatives returned home later in the day.
According to residents familiar with the situation, the head of the family, known locally as Baba Agbaye, had left earlier in the day with his wife and youngest son to their oil farm. On their return journey, they reportedly encountered the suspect along the Ayeka axis. He allegedly told them he was coming from the house, a statement that did not raise immediate concern at the time.
It was only later that the extent of the incident became clear after the bodies were discovered at the family residence.
A resident described the situation as sudden and distressing, noting that the community had been left unsettled and searching for answers.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, while security authorities are expected to begin a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings.
