“I Didn’t Want Her Body to Waste” — 21-Year-Old Carpenter Who Killed a Woman and Defiled Her Corpse Confesses

A 21-year-old carpenter, Anthony Alabi, has been remanded by a Magistrate Court in Akure, Akure, over allegations involving the killing of a 58-year-old woman, Veronica Olaseni.

The defendant was arraigned on charges of murder and theft. Prosecutors told the court that the incident occurred on March 2, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m. in Iboropa-Akoko, where the victim was reportedly attacked on her farm after she allegedly identified him during an attempted theft.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adebayo, the suspect allegedly strangled the woman and stole her belongings, including an Infinix phone, a cutlass, and an Access Bank ATM card.

The charges were filed under sections of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, covering murder and theft.

Court records show that Alabi, who was not represented by a lawyer, also admitted in court that he returned to the victim’s body after the killing. He was quoted as saying he did not want the body “to waste,” a statement that was recorded during proceedings.

The court noted that it could not take his plea due to lack of jurisdiction. Presiding Magistrate Temitope Adurota instead ordered that he be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Director of Public Prosecutions (Ondo State).

The case file has been forwarded for review, and the matter was adjourned to June 6 for mention.
