“God Told Me If I Leave RCCG, My Firstborn Will Die” — Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that God warned him that his firstborn would die if he left the ministry. Pastor Adeboye shared this during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service held on June 7 at Redemption City in Ogun State.
Speaking on divine direction and spiritual consistency, Adeboye referenced a sermon by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, and expressed concern over young Christians frequently moving between churches, often presenting themselves as first-timers in new congregations. He recalled that when he was born again, there were three prominent ministries attracting attention, but despite the temptation to join any of them, God instructed him to remain with RCCG.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said. “But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
At the time, RCCG was relatively unknown, with its headquarters located in a small building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Though Adeboye was a university lecturer, God directed him to submit under his spiritual father’s leadership, despite the latter’s lack of formal education.
“I was a lecturer in the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” Adeboye explained.
He encouraged the congregation, particularly the youth, to seek and remain in the place God has appointed for them. “Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he urged, clarifying that his statement was not meant to suggest RCCG is superior to other denominations.
