Former PDP Governorship Candidate, Ex-SSG Resigns from Party
Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, has officially resigned from the PDP. In a letter dated July 21, which surfaced on Monday, Kashim did not state specific reasons for his decision but expressed appreciation to the party leadership and ward executives for their support and the opportunity to serve.
“After careful thought, I’ve decided to resign from the PDP. I intend to explore other ways to serve our people with dedication, integrity, and the fear of God,” Kashim wrote.
Kashim initially emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections. However, he stepped down in favour of Governor Bala Mohammed, who returned to the governorship race after an unsuccessful run for the PDP presidential ticket. Following this development, Kashim resumed his duties as SSG and played an active role in Governor Mohammed’s re-election campaign across the state.
He later resigned from his position as Secretary to the State Government in January 2025, a decision he said was made at the instruction of the governor.
Although he has not disclosed his next political move, there is increasing speculation that he may seek the Bauchi governorship in 2027 under a new political platform.
