FG Hits Back at Peter Obi, Urges Him to Stop Distorting Facts for Political Gain
In a recent statement, the Federal Government has taken a strong stance against the misrepresentation of facts for political gains, urging Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, to desist from such practices.
This call was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in response to the criticisms aimed at the N2.17 trillion 2023 supplementary appropriation bill, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
Contrary to Peter Obi’s criticisms, the Federal Government asserted that the supplementary budget is not insensitive. Instead, it represents a bold and pragmatic response to the pressing economic challenges currently faced by Nigeria. The government emphasized that the budget was formulated through active engagement and consultation with relevant stakeholders, ensuring that it aligns with the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
Idris also highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency and accountability in government expenditure. He stated that all items in the supplementary budget have been meticulously scrutinized to ensure the efficient utilization of public funds.
The Minister urged Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to familiarize himself with the details of the N2.17 trillion 2023 Supplementary Budget. This budget includes allocations for essential sectors such as security, agriculture, food security, works and housing, wage increases for workers, a student loan scheme, and social safety nets. These allocations are aimed at strengthening the country’s economic foundations and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Furthermore, Idris emphasized that the broad provisions in the supplementary budget reflect President Tinubu’s strong desire to support the vital functions of government, address urgent security needs, and expedite the country’s recovery from the economic impact resulting from the removal of the fuel subsidy.
In conclusion, the Minister called on the political opposition to exercise their right to express differing opinions in an informed and balanced manner and to refrain from misrepresenting facts for political gains. The government’s message is clear: factual and transparent discussions are essential for the progress of the nation.
