Why I Keep Changing Political Parties — Peter Obi Explains
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has explained the reasons behind his movement across political parties, saying his decisions have always been guided by principle and not personal interest.
Obi spoke during an interview on News Central TV, where he addressed criticism over his exits from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, politicians often switch parties for different reasons, but he insisted that his own decisions were based on conviction and values.
“Some men change parties because of their principles, some others change their principles for the sake of their party,” Obi said during the interview.
The former presidential candidate stated that he left APGA after being forced out, while his departure from the PDP was due to disagreements with the party’s direction and internal processes.
“I changed party because of my principle because I’ve been in a system where you can see that it is no longer what you believe in, what you want to practice,” he said.
Obi further argued that political ambition should not override personal values, stressing that the process leading to a goal must also reflect integrity.
“You cannot say you’re going into a destination but the process of going there has compromised your principles,” he added.
