Wike: ‘My Oga Remains My Oga’ Fubara Declares

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, publicly reaffirmed his allegiance to his predecessor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year of the Rivers State Judiciary. This declaration was made during an event at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, attended by both politicians.

The rededication service marked the first public encounter between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike since a recent political crisis had engulfed the state. During the event, Governor Fubara expressed his desire for reconciliation and called for peace in the oil-rich state, emphasizing that Rivers State can only prosper if political actors and their supporters maintain a peaceful environment.

“My oga remains my oga. Whatever has happened is in the past. I have not sent anybody to malign anybody,” Governor Fubara stated, reflecting his commitment to restoring harmony. He acknowledged the challenges the state had faced and assured the public that his administration would fulfill the promises made to the people.

Furthermore, Governor Fubara cautioned his supporters against using abusive language towards perceived opponents, stressing that he had not authorized such actions. He likened the challenges faced in the pursuit of development to a battle against the devil, emphasizing the importance of identifying and overcoming obstacles.

The rededication service provided an opportunity for Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, to make a late entrance and share a handshake with his successor. They were seen sitting together during the service, symbolizing a potential thaw in their relationship.

In a lighthearted moment, Governor Fubara humorously appealed to the congregants to suspend the recognition of guests to avoid any unintended impeachable offenses. The public appearance of the two prominent politicians at this event suggests a possible resolution to the recent political turmoil in Rivers State.
