FCT: Bandits Execute Engineer, Demand N230 Million Ransom for Remaining Hostages
Suspected bandits have reportedly killed Olayinka Ogunyemi, a civil engineer, among the seven individuals held captive in Kuduru community near Bwari area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The victim met his untimely demise on Friday after the families of the hostages failed to meet the demanded N290 million ransom.
According to a community source, the bandits communicated the distressing news of Ogunyemi’s execution on Friday, adding a chilling threat to kill the remaining captives, which include a pregnant woman, a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, two siblings, and two men, unless a N230 million ransom is paid promptly.
The source shared, “They called us yesterday that they have killed Engineer Olayinka Ogunyemi. They told us that they will kill the rest if we don’t bring N230 million. We have already paid N23 million and sent food and other items they demanded, but none of our people has been released.”
Expressing fear and helplessness, the community now appeals to the federal government, police, and army to intensify efforts in rescuing the remaining hostages. The bandits claim Nigeria has offended them, vowing to retaliate through further violence.
The hostages still in captivity are identified as Godwin Rachel Adeoye, Godwin Dominic Austin Buremo, Hassan Usman, Hassan Faosiya, and Bako Azeez.
