EFCC Responds to Viral Video of Apartment Raid in Port Harcourt

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to a viral video showing damage to a lady’s apartment during an early morning raid at Majesty Estate, NTA Road, Port Harcourt. The incident, which occurred around 3 a.m., drew widespread attention online after the resident shared footage of a broken door and claimed harassment by the operatives.

In a statement released on Friday, August 1, 2025, the EFCC confirmed that its Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate carried out a sting operation at the estate following distress calls from residents about the presence of suspected internet fraudsters in the area. The Commission reported that 37 suspects were arrested during the operation.

EFCC acknowledged visiting the apartment seen in the viral video, stating it had been flagged by their intelligence team. According to the agency, the occupants of the apartment refused to open the door even after operatives “properly introduced themselves and announced their mission,” prompting them to force entry. The Commission noted that no arrests or recoveries were made from that specific apartment and emphasized that there was no instance of harassment or unprofessional behavior during the operation.

Describing the video and accompanying allegations as “strange and unwarranted,” the EFCC maintained that many residents of Majesty Estate appreciated the intervention and commended the arrests made. The agency reiterated its commitment to professional conduct and added that any operative found acting outside the bounds of their duty would be disciplined accordingly.
