Edo Governorship Election: Police Arrest Two Political Thugs, Recover Firearms

In a recent pre-election security operation, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspected political thugs in Edo State, recovering firearms in the process. The arrests were made as part of efforts to prevent violence ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election.

According to a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, police officers conducted an overnight raid on various locations across the state, acting on intelligence that some individuals were plotting to disrupt the electoral process.

The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, were apprehended at different locations. Obanor, described as the leader of an armed group, was arrested at Oredo Ward 4, while Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo quarters in Igara Akoko, was taken into custody at his residence.

The police recovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols from Obanor, while Tajudeen was found with a locally made gun.

“These arrests underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining peace and ensuring a violence-free election,” ACP Adejobi said. “The police and other security agencies will not tolerate any attempts to cause chaos during the election.”

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face legal action. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities during the election period.
