Don’t Panic if you see Heavy Movement of Troops – Army to Enugu Residents

The Nigerian Army has issued a statement reassuring residents of Enugu State, particularly those in the Udi Local Government Area and its surrounding council areas, not to panic if they witness heavy troop movement or hear gunfire sounds starting from March 18.

Acting Deputy Director of the 82 Division Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, released the statement on Friday in Enugu, explaining that the activities are part of a routine army training exercise known as the Range Classification Exercise.

Scheduled to take place from March 18 to March 21 at the Army Training Area in Udi, the exercise aims to enhance the weapon proficiency and marksmanship skills of personnel while also assessing the serviceability of weapons not currently deployed in operations.

Unuakhalu advised residents of Ogbede, Ukehe, Umoka, Afa, Ochima, and Onyohor communities to remain calm and refrain from approaching the range area throughout the duration of the exercise, as live ammunition will be utilized.

The Army emphasized that the public should not be alarmed by the heavy troop movement or the gunfire sounds during this period, as they are all part of the planned training activity in accordance with Army Headquarters Training Directives for the year 2024.
