Details Emerge on PDP Leaders’ Meeting with Jonathan

New details have emerged about a recent private meeting between the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The session followed the party’s National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025, where the new National Working Committee (NWC) was elected. According to Turaki, the purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce the party’s leadership to Jonathan.

Speaking to reporters, Turaki said Jonathan reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP. “He is still a card-carrying member and will be more active in party affairs,” Turaki noted, describing the former president’s remarks as “reassuring and encouraging.” He added that Jonathan expressed a continuing sense of obligation to the party.

Turaki also said the leadership sought Jonathan’s guidance ahead of upcoming off-season elections in Ekiti and Osun, as well as the 2027 general elections.

Amid ongoing internal challenges, Turaki stressed the new leadership’s focus on inclusivity and engagement with party members. “This leadership is taking the PDP back to the people. There will be no impunity, and the party will operate on a level playing field,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming the PDP’s position as Nigeria’s main opposition party and expressed confidence in its readiness for future elections.
