Wike-Backed PDP Faction Re-Elects Mohammed, Anyanwu at Abuja Convention

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed as national chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary.

The decision was reached on Sunday during an elective national convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The officials, alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), were returned through a consensus process.

The re-election followed a motion by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to dissolve the party’s national caretaker committee, clearing the way for new leadership.

At the event, party stakeholders called for reconciliation and unity. Sule Lamido urged aggrieved members to return, stating that the party remains open to rebuilding internal cohesion.

Bukola Saraki described the PDP as stable and enduring, while Kingsley Chinda called on members to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abba Moro said those who resisted reconciliation efforts have exited the party, noting a reduction in the number of PDP governors. He also commended Wike’s continued loyalty.

In his remarks, Wike asked members to focus on rebuilding the party structure, stressing that leadership requires discipline and commitment. He expressed confidence that the PDP would present candidates in 2027 and seek to regain political ground lost to defections.
