Dele Momodu Breaks Silence on Davido and Sophia Momodu Custody Battle

Dele Momodu, uncle to Sophia Momodu, has spoken out regarding the ongoing custody dispute between his niece and Nigerian music star Davido.

In a candid post on social media, Momodu expressed surprise at Davido’s affidavit seeking joint custody, especially since their recent conversations had revolved around Davido’s upcoming wedding and his reconnection with his daughter. He highlighted that the core issues in the dispute pertained to financial support, including school fees, accommodation, and a nanny’s salary.

Momodu noted that a lack of communication and camaraderie between Davido and Sophia has exacerbated the situation. He shared details of a distressing message from Davido, who was upset by a counter-affidavit submitted by Sophia. Momodu recalled a recent video call with Davido and Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, where there was no mention of custody issues. Instead, they discussed Davido’s wedding plans and his efforts to reconnect with his daughter.

Momodu appreciated Davido’s father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, for his financial support, including clearing school fees, setting up future payments, and providing a car for his granddaughter. However, he pointed out that accommodation remained a contentious issue, as Sophia declined an offer to live in a family apartment due to privacy concerns.

Sophia requested that Davido cover half the accommodation costs, while Davido offered N5 million annually. Momodu emphasized that the lack of a cooperative relationship between Davido and Sophia has led to the current impasse, and he urged both parties to ensure their daughter is not treated as a second-class child.

Momodu also mentioned that Sophia has allowed Davido access to their daughter under the condition that her nanny is present. He provided examples of occasions where Sophia facilitated interactions between their daughter and Davido’s family, demonstrating her willingness to cooperate.
