“I Only Hear There’s Hardship, Don’t Know Price of Anything” – BBNaija’s Doyin

Big Brother Naija alumna Doyinsola Anuoluwapo David, popularly known as Doyin, recently opened up about her detachment from the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians. During a podcast interview with YouTuber Olufemi Daniel, Doyin candidly shared her lack of firsthand experience with the country’s economic struggles.

Doyin revealed that she does not personally handle her shopping, relying on her domestic staff to manage her purchases. “I am the most detached Nigerian you can ever meet. I don’t even know what is happening. I don’t know the price of anything. I don’t go to the market. I send my chef and they don’t tell me what the price is,” she admitted.

While acknowledging the rising costs of luxury items such as wigs, makeup, and cars, Doyin expressed sympathy for those facing financial difficulties. She recounted a visit to the market in Ogba, where she was moved to tears by the evident suffering of people reacting to N50,000 as if it were N5 million.

“It’s sad because people are suffering, I’m sure because we see things on social media. I also went to the market one time at Ogba, and I cried that day because I saw how people were suffering. People were reacting to N50,000 like it was N5 million. That shows how badly people are suffering,” she said.

Doyin hopes for a future where the average Nigerian can afford basic necessities and urged citizens to fend for themselves amid uncertain times. She also advised those with the means to consider relocating abroad, expressing skepticism about immediate solutions to Nigeria’s challenges under current leadership.

“I don’t know that there would be a solution anytime soon. So I tell people do your best to fend for yourself and family and if you have the opportunity to relocate abroad, do,” she concluded.
