Damagum Still Listed as PDP Chairman on INEC Website Months After Tenure

Nearly three months after the expiration of their tenure, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to list Umar Damagum as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on its official website.

The development comes as efforts to resolve internal disputes within the main opposition party remain stalled. Moves to reconcile factions led by Tanimu Turaki and Nyesom Wike have yet to formally begin, according to party sources.

Insiders aligned with the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) said consultations are ongoing among key stakeholders to harmonise their position ahead of any reconciliation process. The outcome, they said, will be presented once talks commence.

Among those involved in the consultations are Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, alongside other party leaders. A source expressed optimism that the discussions would produce a constructive outcome.

Meanwhile, allies of Wike have proposed the inclusion of former Senate President Bukola Saraki in the reconciliation team. However, he is currently out of the country for Umrah and is expected back around the Eid-el-Fitr period.

Further checks show that INEC’s records still list other PDP officials, including Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, Ahmed Yayale Mohammed as Treasurer, and Kamaldeen Ajibade as Legal Adviser, despite the lapse of their tenure.
