Crisis: “The Devil Is Using Some of Our Members,” PDP Chairman Damagum Cries Out

The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Iliya Damagum, has said that the devil is using some members to sow chaos within the party.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with PDP state chairmen, Damagum urged members involved in the ongoing crisis to reconsider their actions, warning that karma would eventually take its course. The delegation of state chairmen, led by Tony Aziegbemi of Edo State and forum secretary Edward Masha of Kaduna, had visited to reaffirm their loyalty to his leadership.

While the meeting was underway, a group of PDP members held a peaceful protest at the United States Embassy in Abuja, calling for international intervention to protect Nigeria’s democracy. The protesters, holding placards with messages such as “Fix PDP, fix Nigeria, save our democracy” and “Stop party opposition intimidation,” accused certain political forces of pushing the country toward a one-party system.

The protest followed a deepening internal rift in the party, which has seen the National Working Committee divided into rival camps. One faction led by Damagum recently suspended the party’s national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and several others. In response, the Anyanwu camp—reportedly backed by the Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike—announced the suspension of Damagum and his allies.

The Anyanwu group has since taken control of the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, throwing plans for the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, into uncertainty amid conflicting court rulings.

Addressing the crisis, Damagum said the PDP would emerge stronger after the convention. “I want to call on our colleagues that the devil is using to cast out that spirit and remember that betrayal of the institution that made you will never bring healing,” he warned. “You may think you are winning now, but karma will always prevail. God is watching and will judge each of us by our actions.”

He urged party members to act with fairness and faith, adding that a single word of truth should be enough to guide those who have lost their way.
