Church Prophet Arrested for Impregnating Member’s Daughter, Keeping Her Hidden for Months
The shepherd in charge of a white garment church, whose identity is being withheld, has been apprehended by the Ogun State police for impregnating the daughter of a church member. The accused allegedly abducted and concealed the teenager for almost two months, all while maintaining a facade of spiritual retreat.
The 42-year-old prophet, based in Ifo, Ogun State, was taken into custody after the pregnant girl, aged around 18, managed to contact her parents. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the prophet deceived his fellow cleric by claiming the girl was on a spiritual retreat.
In a shocking confession, the prophet admitted to engaging in a sexual relationship with the girl for three years, resulting in her pregnancy. He justified his actions, stating, “I never planned to marry a second wife, and the girl is like my daughter. I was afraid when she got pregnant, and I hid her to protect my reputation.”
The girl’s mother, identified as Joke, narrated her distress upon discovering her daughter’s disappearance. The prophet allegedly kept the girl away, even joining the frantic search for her, all the while concealing his involvement.
The mother explained, “I didn’t want a situation whereby the Prophet would be picked, and would be found faultless on the return of the girl.” She recounted how her daughter revealed the prophet’s role in her retreat and pregnancy, pleading with her not to expose him.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has directed the case to be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit for further investigation.
