Calls for Justice as Pastor Stabs Wife to Death in Anambra

A tragic incident in Anambra State has sparked outrage as a pastor, Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi, allegedly stabbed his wife, Ogechukwu Okafor, to death. The case, which occurred on August 13, 2024, in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, has drawn the attention of the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

The family of the deceased reported the matter to the ministry, revealing a series of irregularities and threats leading up to the incident. According to the victim’s uncle, Samuel Onuorah, he was initially informed by the pastor that his niece had died after falling from a four-story building. However, upon further investigation, the family discovered that Ogechukwu had been stabbed multiple times in the neck and chest, contrary to the husband’s claim.

The family’s suspicions were confirmed after they visited the mortuary where Ogechukwu’s body had been deposited. They also alleged that Elijah had plans to use their newborn baby for ritual purposes and that the fatal attack occurred during a struggle over the child.

In response to the case, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabo, has called on stakeholders, women’s groups, and human rights activists to join forces in ensuring justice for Ogechukwu. She also promised to involve the governor’s wife, expressing confidence that the matter would be pursued to its rightful conclusion.
