Benue Police Command Confirms Rescue of 20 Kidnapped Medical Students
The Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued all 20 medical students and a House Officer who were abducted in Otukpo Local Government Area eight days ago.
The confirmation of the rescue came from the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, who informed AIT.live that the victims had been safely recovered. “Kidnap victims rescued. Details will be released tomorrow morning, please,” SP Anene stated.
The rescue operation followed the deployment of a Tactical Squad by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Wednesday, who had been tasked with securing the safe return of the hostages.
The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were kidnapped on August 15 while traveling to Enugu State for a Catholic fellowship convention.
Further details regarding the operation are expected to be disclosed by the authorities in the coming hours.
