Bauchi Speaker Knocks FCT Minister Wike for Threatening PDP Governors

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suleiman Abubakar, has strongly criticized recent remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of attempting to incite political unrest in states where governors are allegedly involved in the Rivers State political crisis.

In a statement released to the press, Rt. Hon. Abubakar, who is also the immediate past chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Speakers Forum, labeled Wike’s comments as “reckless” and “unbecoming” of a leader. He warned that such inflammatory rhetoric not only threatens the unity of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but also endangers the stability of the nation as a whole.

The Speaker called on the PDP leadership and national security agencies to take swift action to curb what he described as Wike’s “excesses,” emphasizing that the party’s foundation is built on democracy, mutual respect, and the rule of law. Abubakar expressed his dismay at Wike’s alleged attempts to use his influence to intimidate other states, describing it as a “gross misuse of power” and a direct violation of the core values of the PDP. He also highlighted the potential consequences of Wike’s actions on national unity.

He further criticized Wike’s continued public outbursts, stating that they are detrimental to the PDP and undermine the trust placed in him by the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at large. Abubakar urged the National Security Adviser and the media to hold individuals accountable for making such inflammatory statements.

“We cannot allow a situation where one man’s ego and thirst for power jeopardize the peace and unity of our nation,” he added
