Bauchi Head Teacher Receives 11-Year Jail Term for Assaulting 6-Year-Old Girl
Jalaludeen Zakari, a head teacher in Bauchi, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Bauchi State High Court. This ruling comes after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl who was present for an admission screening at the school.
According to the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Dayabu Ayuba, Zakari detained the young girl for an extended period beyond official school hours before committing the assault. The prosecution presented three witnesses, including the victim herself, during the trial, leading to the conviction.
Speaking to newsmen in Bauchi, Ayuba revealed that the sentencing took place in July of this year. He explained, “Jalaludeen pleaded with the court for leniency, but the gravity of his crime led to an 11-year prison term.”
During the assault, Zakari had instructed all other pupils to leave, keeping the victim behind without providing any legitimate reason for her prolonged stay. This act was characterized as a serious sexual assault, equivalent to rape in legal terms.
The case highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of children within educational institutions, and the legal system’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
