Bandits Kill RCCG Pastor’s Son, Abduct Wife Near Abuja
Bandits have killed the son of a minister in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and abducted his wife in Mararaba, a community in Nasarawa State bordering Abuja.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday last week at the home of Austin Ifeji in Gwagwalade, Mararaba. Heavily armed assailants stormed the residence, inflicting machete cuts on Ifeji before he managed to escape. In response, the kidnappers seized his wife.
During the attack, Ifeji’s son attempted to defend his mother but was shot and subjected to further machete attacks in the presence of his siblings. Despite efforts to revive him at the hospital, he did not survive.
A neighbor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the assailants took Ifeji’s wife after killing the son and demanded a ransom of N30 million. Details regarding her release remained unclear at the time of reporting.
Sources described the deceased as the only son of his parents, who also have four daughters. “He could not stand the way they were treating his mother and decided to confront them, which led to him being shot,” a source said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Rahman Nansel, stated that the command was unaware of the incident.
