At least 20 people have been killed in an attack by armed assailants on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assault has raised fresh concerns over security in rural parts of the state, where armed groups have continued to target settlements in recent months.

The Kebbi State Government confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. Deputy Governor Umar Tafida visited the community on Saturday alongside a government delegation.

During the visit, Tafida said additional security personnel and equipment would be deployed to the area to support ongoing operations and reduce the risk of further attacks.

“We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” he said.

Local officials, including the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, and the lawmaker representing Arewa Constituency in the state assembly, Nuradeen Kangiwa, said the attack occurred several days earlier and resulted in heavy casualties.

They praised the state government’s response and its efforts to address insecurity in affected communities.

Traditional leaders who joined the delegation also welcomed the government’s intervention but urged authorities to improve road access to Fesken Rafi. They said better infrastructure would improve emergency response and support economic activity in the area.

The attack underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Kebbi State, despite continued operations by authorities aimed at curbing armed violence.
