Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have set fire to a primary school and a secondary school in Kautikari village, located in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of southern Borno, following the abduction of pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba, who have remained missing for nearly a month.
According to security sources, the attackers entered Kautikari at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and targeted public school facilities in the community.
"No casualty has been reported so far, but residents fled into nearby bushes to avoid being caught in the attack," a security source said.
A resident of the village said the community had experienced a similar attack months earlier, although no public or private property was destroyed at the time.
"They came before, but they did not burn any buildings. I do not understand why they decided to set the primary school and the day secondary school on fire this time," the resident said.
Kautikari, a community in Chibok LGA, has faced repeated attacks by insurgent groups over the years.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, did not go through at the time of filing this report.
