In a recent interview on Channels Television, Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, has confidently asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holds no authority to suspend him from its ranks. This declaration comes amid discussions about his political affiliation and role within the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
Wike’s appointment as the FCT minister within President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet has ignited debates regarding potential disciplinary action by the PDP. However, in the interview, Wike staunchly maintained that his commitment to governance transcends his party membership.
“Governance is not about party. Party is a vehicle that conveys you,” Wike stated firmly, emphasizing his unwavering allegiance to the PDP. He revealed that his decision to assume the FCT ministerial role was rooted in his support for Tinubu’s administration, not his affiliation with any political party.
“I’m not here to work for a party. I’m here to support the president who has confidence in me. I owe nobody an apology,” Wike asserted, underscoring his dedication to serving the country’s interests over partisan considerations.
When questioned about the possibility of being suspended by the PDP due to his alignment with an opposing political faction, Wike displayed confidence in his position. “How can anybody talk about expelling me? With all due respect, I have not seen that person,” he challenged, highlighting the absence of a credible authority to take such action.
Wike further turned the tables, suggesting that he should be the one to call for the discipline of those who had violated the party’s constitutional principles. His assertive stance seemed to underscore his conviction in his actions and intentions.
