“Anambra Is Safe, Come Home for Christmas” – Police Commissioner Orutugu Begs Indigenes

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has assured indigenes across the country and abroad that the state is safe and ready to welcome everyone home for the Christmas festivities. He made this known on Sunday night, November 9, following what has been widely hailed as the most peaceful governorship election in Anambra’s history.

CP Orutugu declared that Anambra is “free and peaceful,” pointing to the successful conduct of the election as proof of the command’s effective security strategy. He encouraged citizens to return home confidently, saying, “Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas.”

Since assuming office nine months ago, the Commissioner has pursued a policing model rooted in intelligence gathering, rapid response, and community partnership. He described his philosophy as “policing without guns,” focusing on empathy and engagement rather than intimidation. “I police not your actions but your emotions by counseling, appealing to your conscience,” he explained.

He highlighted strong collaboration with traditional rulers, youth organizations, and religious leaders as central to improving intelligence sharing and preventing crime. These alliances, he said, have ensured that local governments across the state remain relatively secure. His flashpoint deployment strategy has also strengthened security at border communities and sensitive areas.

CP Orutugu reaffirmed his commitment to professionalism and accountability within the force, maintaining zero tolerance for extortion, misconduct, or human rights abuse.

He assured that residents and visitors returning for Christmas will experience a robust security presence and swift response capability. “Through deliberate policing and grassroots engagement, we have maintained peace. Anambra is ready for the festive season. Come home,” he concluded.
