Police, DSS Begin Special Patrols to Secure Churches, Worship Centres in FCT

Security agencies have intensified patrols across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to safeguard churches and other places of worship, particularly in border and forested communities.

Operatives of the FCT Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, working with the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, launched a special patrol on November 9, 2025. The exercise covers areas linking Bwari–Kaduna, Bwari–Niger, and Gwagwalada–Niger states.

The operation was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, as part of efforts to strengthen security during the ember months.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the patrol ran from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and was designed to boost public confidence, deter criminal activity, and ensure worshippers can gather without fear.

“Church leaders in the affected communities have been engaged and reassured of the CP’s commitment to their safety. They have also been advised on proactive measures such as avoiding late-night activities, maintaining contact with security agencies, and reporting suspicious movements,” Adeh stated.

She added that several access routes used by criminal elements have been blocked as part of intelligence-led preventive measures, while strategic security posts within forested areas remain manned and closely monitored.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives, emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility.

For emergencies or information, the public can reach the command via the following numbers: 08032003913, 08068587311, CRU 08107314192, or the PRO’s office at 07038979348.

CP Dantawaye reaffirmed that the FCT remains secure, assuring residents that the command will continue to adapt its strategies to maintain peace and safety across the territory.
