Abia PDP Attributes 2023 Downfall to Defectors Who Joined APC

In a recent development, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has addressed the defection of some of its members to the rival All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the party, the departure of these members is not a cause for concern as they had become obsolete within the PDP ranks.

In a press release issued by Abraham Amah, the Vice Chairman/acting Publicity Secretary of the Abia PDP, it was revealed that the party had conducted an introspective analysis following the 2023 polls. This assessment highlighted the detrimental impact of certain individuals who were now defecting to the APC.

The statement affirmed that these individuals, responsible for what was described as a “brief downturn” in the fortunes of the party, had recognized their diminishing relevance within the PDP. Consequently, their departure was viewed as a positive development for the party’s future prospects.

Moreover, the Abia PDP conveyed its optimism about the influx of new applications from individuals eager to join its ranks. This influx was seen as a silver lining resulting from the recent defections.

The defections, which included notable figures such as former Chief of Staff to ex-governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Anthony Agbazuere, and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Eze Chikanmayo, were described as a significant shake-up in the Abia political landscape.

The Abia PDP concluded its statement by expressing gratitude for the self-exit of individuals deemed detrimental to the party’s interests, signaling a strategic recalibration as the party strives to realign itself for future electoral challenges.
