“6 Dead, 14 Vehicles Burnt in Nyanya Accident” – FCT Police
A tragic accident at Nyanya Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday evening has claimed six lives and destroyed 14 vehicles in a fiery crash. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 6:58 pm, involved a Dangote truck carrying cement that lost control and rammed into vehicles caught in traffic.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, described the scene as horrifying, stating that the truck was approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA when it veered off course and collided with multiple stationary vehicles, sparking a massive fire.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and police operatives, battled the flames to rescue those trapped. Sadly, six victims succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Their remains have been deposited at the Karu General Hospital morgue.
Security agencies have since contained the situation and normal traffic has resumed. The FCT Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
