286 Army Captains Set to Take Promotion Examination for Major Rank in Nigerian Army
In a significant step toward advancing their military careers, a total of 286 Army Captains are gearing up to undertake a rigorous promotion examination that could elevate them to the rank of Major in the Nigerian Army.
The Examination President and Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, Major General Kevin O. Aligbe, gathered the officers at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to outline the purpose and importance of the forthcoming examination. Major General Aligbe stressed that this examination aims to prepare the captains for the future and assess their professional capabilities thoroughly.
The examination will cover a wide range of criteria, including communication skills, logical thinking, physical and mental capabilities, and various other essential skills. Major General Aligbe warned against cheating or any form of exam malpractice, asserting that candidates have a maximum of three attempts to pass the examination, in line with Army Headquarters’ policy.
Recognizing the pressing global security challenges, including terrorism and insurgency, Major General Aligbe assured that the examination would address these concerns directly. The topics covered will encompass global issues like terrorism and insurgency, effective communication, logical reasoning, and map reading.
Punctuality will be of utmost importance during the examination process. Major General Aligbe emphasized that candidates must adhere to the examination timetable, with tests beginning daily at 0800 hours. Lateness will not be tolerated, and any candidate arriving 10 minutes late to any of the papers will be automatically disqualified.
Furthermore, to attain promotion from Captain to Major, officers must achieve a perfect score of 100 percent in the examination, according to Major General Aligbe’s directives.
The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Muhammed Usman, highlighted the significance of this examination in fostering junior leadership skills and advancing national security objectives. He stressed that the examination’s purpose is to enhance candidates’ knowledge of various aspects of military operations, with a specific focus on Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations.
In his words, Major General Muhammed Usman said, “We are all aware that the aim of this examination is to evaluate the proficiency of this category of officers and develop their junior leadership capabilities for higher responsibilities in the Nigerian Army.” This examination is a pivotal step in shaping the future leadership of the Nigerian Army and ensuring its readiness to tackle the evolving challenges of national and international security.
