23-Year-Old Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Killing Minor in Ogun
In a judgment delivered on Monday, the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta sentenced 23-year-old Azeez Akinpelu to death by hanging for the heinous murder of a minor, Rokibat Odeyale.
Residing in the Owode area of Ogun State, Akinpelu faced charges of conspiracy, possession of firearms, manslaughter, attempted murder, and murder. The convict’s actions unfolded on March 27, 2021, around 6:00 pm at Atala People Igbeyin, Owode Egbe area of Ogun.
According to court records, Akinpelu conspired with accomplices to fatally shoot Rokibat Odeyale in the head using a local pistol during the celebration of Orile Igbeyin Day. The festivities took a tragic turn when a gunshot pierced through the crowd where children were dancing culturally and entertaining guests.
Justice O.O Stanley, presiding over the case, emphasized that the prosecution convincingly established Akinpelu’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, the court handed down multiple sentences, including the ultimate penalty of death by hanging.
This ruling serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of such grievous acts, reinforcing the commitment to justice within the Ogun State legal system.
