Man Allegedly Beaten to Death in Ogun Hotel, Police Launch Investigation
A 30-year-old man, Olamide Akinolu, was confirmed dead after a violent altercation at Osas Hotel, located in the Wadoye community of Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun State. The incident, which occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, has left the community in shock and led to increased police activity as investigations continue.
Reports indicate that Akinolu visited the hotel to meet with a man from whom he had rented musical instruments for a payment of N50,000. However, sources say he was ambushed and allegedly beaten by unknown individuals under unclear circumstances.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the details on Wednesday. According to Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, Akinolu’s father reported the assault to the Ajuwon division. “He sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where the doctor sadly pronounced him dead,” Odutola stated.
Following news of Akinolu’s death, tensions rose, leading to a retaliatory attack on the hotel by aggrieved community members. The hotel manager sustained injuries during the ensuing chaos, and several pieces of hotel property were destroyed before law enforcement intervened.
“Our officers were dispatched to the scene to restore calm,” Odutola said. She added that Akinolu’s body has been transferred to a mortuary in Olambe for examination and autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
