2027: Gov. Otti in Trouble as Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Allies Meet to Unseat Him

Uzor Kalu and Theodore Orji, both former governors of Abia State, have initiated a political alliance aimed at challenging Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 general election. The meeting, held in Umuahia on Friday, drew several former political officeholders who governed or held key positions in the state between 2009 and 2023.

Speaking to reporters after the gathering, Kalu said the meeting was intended to consolidate the experience and influence of past administrations into a unified force. “The group, which we call ‘The Team,’ played a critical role in shaping Abia State during our tenure,” he said. “Leadership is a relay. I handed over to Senator T.A. Orji, who handed over to Okezie Ikpeazu. No single individual can claim we achieved nothing. If we did nothing, where would our people be today?”

Kalu proposed expanding the group to include all former officeholders from the period, arguing that their collective experience should guide the state’s future. He emphasized that the platform transcends party lines, welcoming allies regardless of political affiliation.

Theodore Orji, who also attended the meeting, highlighted the need for coordinated political action. “Abia State deserves leadership that builds on past achievements while addressing current challenges. Our goal is not personal; it is about ensuring progress and stability,” he said.

Observers note that the meeting signals a potential shift in the state’s political landscape, with seasoned politicians rallying behind a common agenda to challenge the incumbent governor. Kalu reinforced this point, saying, “Our objective is clear: political change must occur in Abia State in 2027.”
