You’re a Nnewi Billionaire, Not on the Level of Otedola or Elumelu — Cubana ChiefPriest Claps Back at Cosmas Maduka
Nigerian businessman and socialite Cubana ChiefPriest has fired back at billionaire industrialist Cosmas Maduka following the Coscharis Motors boss’s recent criticism of socialites who publicly flaunt their wealth and popularize phrases like “Money na water.”
Maduka, while speaking at a recent event, berated the culture of lavish spending and showiness among Nigeria’s new crop of rich personalities, saying that true wealth is quiet. His comments, which referenced names like Tony Elumelu and Femi Otedola, sparked reactions across social media.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Cubana ChiefPriest responded with a taunting clapback, saying, “You be Nnewi billionaire, not on the level of Otedola or Elumelu.” He went on to explain that the digital age has transformed how wealth is built and perceived.
“With all due respect to the motivational-speaking older generation who built wealth quietly, the world you thrived in is not the one we live in today,” he wrote. “In your time, capital was factories, fleets, and real estate. In our time, attention is the main capital. These capitals listed cannot sell in today’s market without the major capital.”
ChiefPriest argued that visibility now drives the modern economy, noting that showing wealth online is not vanity but strategy. “Visibility has become the new currency. In a digital economy, obscurity is bankruptcy. What you don’t show doesn’t sell. What you don’t amplify dissolves into silence,” he added.
He accused Maduka of using his name and others to gain attention while claiming to shun such “noise.” “We are the noise — that’s why you know us to the extent you had to use us to make references in your dry speech. Because you want to use us to trend without paying us,” he wrote.
Mocking Maduka’s earlier claim that he leaves events when money is sprayed, ChiefPriest quipped, “Why must a billionaire pretend to use the toilet just to run away from an event? That’s a lot of stress for a real billionaire.”
The exchange has fueled heated debate online about the clash between old-school modesty and the new-age culture of digital visibility as a tool for wealth creation.
