Yahaya Bello Declares Interest in Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Seat
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Bello made the announcement during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders from the district. A video of the visit and his declaration was shared on Bello’s verified Facebook page on Monday.
“I accept to run for the Senate in 2027,” Bello told the gathering, detailing his plan to bring development and representation to Kogi Central. He emphasized his commitment to addressing the needs of his constituents and leveraging his experience as governor to contribute effectively at the National Assembly.
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo attended the event, along with other political figures and community leaders. According to *Peoples Daily*, Ododo appealed to Bello to respond positively to calls from party leaders and constituents to represent the district in the Senate. The appeal was made in the presence of the Ohinoyi and other influential figures from Ebiraland.
Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, remains a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. *Kogi Watch* reported that Amoka Eneji, Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, congratulated Bello on his decision, noting his contributions to the unity and development of the Ebira people. Eneji said Bello’s leadership would continue to be an important part of the district’s history.
The Kogi Central Senatorial seat is currently held by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, elected in 2023. Akpoti-Uduaghan, a lawyer and former governorship aspirant, is the first woman to represent the district in the Senate.
